CleanPak’s aerosol recycling plant is Europe’s largest, most technologically advanced aerosol recycle licenced facility. We can recycle 4,000 aerosols each hour, creating an industry pace-setting of 3.5million aerosols recycled each year. At Cleanpak, we take in and process 100% of all the aerosols we receive, including the cans, their contents, their propellant gasses and even the plastic nozzles and caps.

Waste Content Removal and Propellant Gas Capture:
Our recycling unit specializes in processing empty and partially filled aerosol cans containing various substances like paints, lubricating oils, hair spray, and deodorants.
Using our unique technology, we meticulously remove and collect the waste contents of these aerosols, including gaseous and liquid components.

Metal Recycling and Energy Generation:
After the waste contents have been safely removed, the empty metal containers are baled and separated from any plastic parts.
These metal bricks are then sent for recycling, where they are transformed into new metal products, including fresh aerosol cans and tin cans for the food and beverage industries. This closed-loop recycling process ensures that an impressive 3,000 tonnes of metal is recycled every year.
Waste gases produced during recycling are harnessed to generate more energy in-house, driving additional machinery and reducing our environmental footprint.

Plastic Recycling and Liquid Distillation:
Even the plastic aerosol caps and nozzles do not go to waste. We carefully recycle them into other plastic products, contributing to the circularity of plastic materials.
Additionally, waste aerosol liquids are sent for distillation, where they are converted into fuel for industrial use

Assessment and Solution Delivery:

Decontamination and Recycling:
CleanPak specializes in the decontamination and recycling of both hazardous and non-hazardous contaminated plastic packaging. This includes plastic containers ranging from 5 litres to 205 litres.
During the process, we meticulously manage any packaging residues, such as old fuel, to ensure safe disposal. The contaminated plastics are shredded and processed into different grades of plastic granulate, which can then be reintroduced into various industries as a valuable and sustainable resource.

Return to Industry:
Our final step is to return the processed plastic granulate back into industry. By doing so, we contribute to the circular economy and reduce the environmental impact associated with contaminated plastic packaging.

Pre-processing
Hazardous Waste Intake: We receive and record the incoming hazardous waste materials at our Hull recycling plant. Proper documentation is essential to track the types and quantities of waste being processed. Prior to any handling, our staff will follow safety protocols, wearing the correct PPE and ensuring containment measures are in place to prevent spills or accidents.

Categorisation
Sorting and Segregation: Our in-house chemists segregate the hazardous waste based on their chemical composition, hazards and physical properties. This is to prevent incompatible materials from coming into contact with each other.

We then take the materials, sorting and assessing them to be recycled or processed into a fuel that can then be reused, promoting a circular economy and reducing the need for new resources.
